I will not go as far as to say a support everything the JBS has ever done but they are a wonderful political advocacy group based on the principles of authentic conservatism and constitutional government. Their first president and founder, Robert W. Welch, Jr., was an American politician and a supporter of Robert Taft’s presidential bid. At a breakfast meeting in Cayce on Friday, Mark Sanford was the guest of honor where the speaker presented both the governor and South Carolina Comptroller General Richard Eckstrom with a copy of Tom’s latest. Not much action here but perhaps the most significant aspect of this is that Sanford, given his courageous stand against federal stimulus and much unlike most GOP politicians, would likely be willing to take Tom’s proposal to heart. Let’s hope Sanford lets Nikki Haley borrow Nullification when he’s finished with it.

I was invited to speak at the convention only a few weeks before the event. It was suggested that my speech should rally the troops to help rebuild party membership. I was eventually given a fifteen minute time-slot early Sunday morning, only a few hours after most delegates stopped drinking and stumbled to bed. Even I am not eloquent enough to inspire people to rejoin the party in only a quarter of an hour, especially when the people to be inspired are not even in attendance. Therefore, I decided to highlight some of the reasons that party membership has been dropping in the first place. Please note that until now, I have avoided distributing my speech outside the convention where it was given.
